There are always certain things in the gay world that are sure to cause excitement. Hearing that another country or US state has legalised gay marriage; celebrities finally coming out of the closet (despite us knowing the truth all along…eh Ricky?); and of course, the upcoming release of a Kylie album. Recently it was announced that her 11th studio effort Aphrodite would be released in July and we were treated to a preview of the first single All The Lovers. Yesterday we finally got to hear the whole thing for the first time and as Kylie herself said back on X…wow! This is the comeback single that should have come with her last album, but alas didn't. It's a sublimely classy electro-disco styled affair that Kylie was born to do and is reminiscent of her Scissor Sisters collaborations (I Believe In You, and White Diamond). All The Lovers has Kylie back in her lower registers vocally. The verses have her at her most sensual, bordering on a whisper at times, almost as though she's singing quietly in your ear. The chorus however is not so subtle and is, in a word, euphoric. Backed by a synth line that is quite impossible to ignore, it's the sort of chorus that you would happily be dragged back to the dance floor at 4 in the morning to dance to. If the rest of the album is half as good as this, it could be one of her best yet. Have a listen below! Andy G - 15th May 2010
