Alternative Auckland lesbian night Proud Mary will be back for its second night this Saturday, with a live band and a pile of DJs. The event returns to to 4:20 K' Rd, where it had a successful debut in March. Organiser Katija Vlatkovich says she is keeping the night going after positive feedback from the community. "What I notice on the scene is that there are some really, really wicked events, but there is a massive gap in a night for girls that does cater for more alternative, indie music." Saturday's line-up features local all-female band The Gladeyes, along with the Quay Street Social Club, Tina Turntables and Brigid-Anne Gilbert. Vlatkovich wants people to get into the Proud Mary spirit and even has an incentive on offer. "We want you to dress up for this one. We'll let you in for $5 if you come as your favourite religious icon." Dedicated lesbian venue Candy bar is even shutting down for the night to come and support Proud Mary. Proud Mary at at 4:20 K'Rd Saturday May 8, from 9pm. Entry $10 for anyone not in costume.
