Brits apologise for pro-gay Papal visit memo

Mon 26 Apr 2010 In: International News View at Wayback

A satirical memo circulated by a junior official in Britain's Foreign Office suggests the Pope should bless a gay marriage on his forthcoming trip to the UK. The unsigned memo, headed "The ideal visit would see..." included a number of suggestions highlighting areas of contention between Catholic teachings and British policy or laws. They included blessing a gay marriage, sponsoring a network of AIDS clinics, launching a range of "Benedict" condoms, drop the church's opposition to same-sex couples being able to adopt, open an abortion ward, do forward rolls with a group of children to promote healthy living, and launch a helpline for abused children. The British government has apologised to the Vatican, describing the ideas as "ill-judged, naive and disrespectful."
