Out Wellington Inc. Co-Chairs Andy Boreham and Kayla Riarn. Under the Rainbow, the week-long art exhibition and fundraiser for Out Wellington Inc, has been judged a huge success, with each piece featured being sold, raising around $3,000. The fundraiser officially closed last night, with a packed house bidding on pieces donated by GLBT artists across New Zealand. The money raised will go towards Wellington's most popular annual GLBT event, Out in the Square. "The result was better than any of us could ever have anticipated," says Out Wellington's co-chair, Andy Boreham. "It took a lot of hard work but it has all paid off." The fact that every piece sold is a testament to how much Wellington wants to see Out in the Square continue. "The gay and lesbian fair is a hugely popular event," says co-chair Kayla Riarn. "Wellington's GLBT communities certainly want to see that continue well into the future, and the success of Under the Rainbow means so much toward that." The opening and closing events for Under the Rainbow were both very popular, with many turning out to enjoy a wide variety of art, and bid to take some home. The success means Under the Rainbow will return as an annual event at Thistle Gallery. "We're already working on the next exhibition,” Boreham says. “Watch this space."
