Radio and TV presenter Steven Oates has launched a radio show tailored to the queer community on new Auckland station Radio Ponsonby. Steven Oates Wild Oates airs at 8pm every Sunday night on 101.7fm in Auckland and streams live at http://www.radioponsonby.co.nz/. Radio Ponsonby was started by a group fronted by Chapel Bar and Sale St owner Luke Dallow, who saw the opportunity to include a gay show. "There was no question in my mind on who would host this show," says Dallow. "After seeing his success on his (ALT) TV show Sparkle on Sunday I knew the obvious choice was Steven Oates." Having started his media career on the airwaves with 95bFM, Oates can't wait to bring a queer voice back to radio. "For me it's almost like going back to my roots, I love the accessibility and laid back nature of radio, and the show will be the perfect way to round off your weekend." The winner of Gay Male of the Year at the OurFest Awards is promising a smorgasbord of interviews, local and international stories, profiles, the most up to date gossip and a feast of the hottest music.
