Works by two gay MPs are part of a fundraising art exhibition which opens in Wellington on Monday night. Under the Rainbow is the brainchild of Out Wellington Inc. Featuring artworks that tell stories about being gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender in Aotearoa, it aims to raise funds for Out in the Square 2011 and other GLBT events. "It's really important that such iconic events continue to make a splash," Out Wellington's co-chair Andy Boreham says. "And raising funds to produce such events is an integral part of that success." The exhibition features works by out MPs Grant Robertson and Charles Chauvel. "Out Wellington does excellent work and deserves widespread support." Chauvel says. "I hope that support will be shown . . . through many generous bids for that art." Under the Rainbow opens at Thistle Gallery, on Upper Cuba St, from 6pm on Monday night. A final closing event will be held on Saturday 17 from 7pm. "People can come in and bid on any of the artworks any time during the week," Boreham says. "Our closing event on the Saturday is when last bids will be made and hopefully each piece will be walking out of the door to a new home." Under the Rainbow, Monday 12 – Saturday 17 April, Thistle Gallery, Wellington.
