Boy George bringing prison life to stage

Thu 25 Mar 2010 In: International News View at NDHA

London-based gay DJ and former pop star Boy George is planning to star in a play based on his prison experiences. Boy George Boy George, 48, was sentenced to 15 months in jail last year after being found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort, but only served four months before being released on good behaviour. The forthcoming play will apparently feature material from dairies he kept while in prison. The singer says the inmates he met in jail weren’t all bad. “In a funny sort of way, people were actually quite sweet; people would come up to me and say, ‘Do you need a tooth brush, a mirror?’ There’s some nice people in prison! The entertainer won't be the first gay British pop star to create entertainment from his brush with the law. George Michael famously produced a popular satirical music video based on his 1998 arrest in Los Angeles for coming on to an undercover police officer in a public toilet.
