Phone counselling service OUTLine has a new community development officer. New community development officer Susan Blick Australian Susan Blick had her first day on the job yesterday. Components of the position were carried out by former general manager Lesley Belcham, who finished her time with the organisation in October, but OUTLine says this is a new role. Chairperson Lorraine Martin says as community development officer Blick will develop strategies, initiate various projects and promote the activities to service and support identified needs, in consultation with other agencies. The new recruit will be based in the OUTLine offices in downtown Auckland, but a large percentage of her time will be spent out in the community. It is currently a part-time position, which Martin says OUTLine hopes to move to full-time hours next year if it has the funding. Blick says she has many innovative ideas and a lot of drive to see some improvements for those who feel marginalised in the community, and hopes that her position as community development officer for OUTLine will give her the opportunity to take action and make change where and when required. She hopes that by working closely with others in the community the strong foundation that has already been laid can be further built upon, resulting in increased mainstream society and governmental support.
