Auckland's iconic Beresford Square will be transformed for a free family fun carnival tomorrow (Saturday) featuring a wide range of personalities, musicians, drag divas and dance crews. Aroha Day, which closes the week-long Aroha Festival, will star Mika, Jan Hellriegal, Hymnchidiva and the Girls from Caluzzi and Finale restaurants, among many more in the line-up. A covered and comfortable kaumātua area will be provided, along with an array of food and craft stalls, ranging from mussel fritters, gourmet nuts and kiwi confectionaries to locally made jewellery and natural beauty products. "Funds raised by bucket collectors there will be given to the Auckland City Mission and Mika Haka Foundation LGBT Youth Programmes," says Mika. Beresford Square is located just off the Karangahape Road end of Pitt Street. The 3pm-9pm event will be followed by Aroha Festival's closing night Aroha After-Dark dance party at Galatos that evening, with the doors there opening at 9pm.
