An anti-gay Christian political party formed to contest the last general election is in the process of winding up, having spectacularly failed to impress New Zealand voters. Destiny's Richard Lewis The Family Party was created from the ashes of Brian Tamaki's Destiny NZ party "to reinstate traditional values and to put families first again in Parliament." Its leader was Destiny church's political leader and manager Richard Lewis. Rabidly anti-gay ex-MP Paul Adams - who notoriously and unsuccessfully fasted to call God to strike down the Civil Unions Bill - was deputy leader. The Party achieved only 0.35% of the nationwide vote in 2008 and failed to win any seats. It has applied to the Electoral Commission to be de-registered and its website is now inactive.
