A California state senator who has consistently voted against gay equality initiatives has been forced to admit that he is himself gay. California state senator Roy Ashburn Conservative Republican Roy Ashburn, a 55-year old father of four, has voted against gay initiatives including anti-discrimination laws, moves to recognise out of state same-sex marriages and even a bill to establish a day honouring murdered gay rights politician Harvey Milk. Ashburn was arrested last week for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was then rumoured to have been at a gay nightclub earlier that evening and was driving in the company of an unidentified man.
