UniQ LGBT social and support groups in tertiary study centres around New Zealand are back as students head to their first lectures for 2010. UniQ welcomes you: The 2010 UniQ stall at Auckland Uni Auckland University's UniQ group had their annual stand up as part of Orientation Week last week, and tell GayNZ.com that over 150 people – ranging from a 17-year-old first-year student to a 74-year-old returning student – signed up to the mailing list for regular UniQ event details. The group meets weekly in a café on K' Road during the study year. UniQ is the New Zealand LGBT students' group at universities, polytechs and colleges of education, run mostly by students and supported by staff. While each group around the country is independent from each other, they occasionally take part in national campaigns and meet once a year for a national UniQ conference. Wellington's UniQ Victoria is currently looking for volunteers, and will hold its first meeting this Wednesday. Email uniq@vuwsa.org.nzto get in touch. AUT, Otago, Canterbury, Waikato, and Massey in Auckland Wellington and Palmerston North all also have UniQ groups. Full contact details are on the official UniQ NZ website.
