GayNZ.com's senior writer Matt Akersten has been appointed editor of Australian LGBT website SameSame.com.au. Departing: Matt Akersten "I've had the most incredible, life-changing time with GayNZ.com," says Akersten, who has worked on the website full-time since August 2006. "It's been my honour to meet hundereds of colourful, bewildering, hilarious and talented people. "There have been so many breaking news dramas, hot Forum topics, trips around the country, festival delights, and smiling friends in photos from all across New Zealand. And that's all just been in 2010 - the other years have been amazing too," he laughs. Akersten's last day at GayNZ.com will be Friday 19 March. His departure to Sydney means the search must begin immediately for new talent to join the website's crew. GayNZ.com Content Editor Jay Bennie says he's looking for a person who is well connected into the NZ glbt communities "and who has a passion for telling everyone everything that's happening everywhere in our glbt nation." The new appointee will probably be Auckland-based with good writing skills and an enthusiasm for digital media and social networking, he says. "It's a big ask but if we can't find one super-person we are open to splitting the job two or three ways to embrace the skills and energy we need to continue producing New Zealand's foremost LGBT news, information and communication website."
