A crowd of bears raised their glasses - and sausages - to toast the start of NZ's first-ever Bear Week yesterday at a BBQ in K' Road's Kamo bar. Furry friends: BBQ bears seen at Kamo yesterday The eight Bear NZ events planned include Bear Drag shows at Caluzzi on Tuesday, Friday's Mr. Urge Bear competition, and the Tri-Nations Party on Saturday. This evening will be Wet Fur night at Centurian sauna in Beresford Square from 8pm until midnight. Wednesday night's UnderBear Party is sure to be popular at K' Road's Urge bar, and Thursday will feature Bear Bingo games at Dot's bar on Symonds Street. "This week is about enjoying who we are - you don't have to identify as a bear or a cub to join in the fun," says Alan Granville, co-owner of Bear NZ supporter Urge bar. Tickets are still available for the climax event of Bear NZ week – the Tri-Nations Party at K' Road's 4:20 bar. Top US DJ Rotten Robbie is making his debut appearance in New Zealand. He'll be joined by Sydneysider DJ Matt Effect and Urge Bar's resident star DJ Mauri for what the Bear's Week organise promise will be "a big night of sweaty fun."
