Summer fun for Aucks and Welly this weekend

Fri 29 Jan 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

It's set to be a celebration of summer this weekend with special events in two of Auckland's gay bars and a beach party in Wellington. The Bro Online Beach Party happens tomorrow (Saturday) from 1pm until 7pm at Wellington's Breaker Bay, featuring a free BBQ, beach games, music and a competition to find the next Bro Online cover model. A free bus will leave from Maya bar (at 20 Blair Street) at Midday to go to the beach, and will return at 5pm and 7pm. "The weather forecast is for a fine 25degree day with just a cooling breeze – perfect for the beach," say the Bro Online crew." An official after-party in Wellington's Maya bar on Blair Street kicks off at 9pm Saturday night. Attendees are encouraged to dress in a beach theme, with electro house DJs and performers lined up the keep the party going until dawn on Sunday morning. This Sunday night on K' Road, Family bar's annual Summerama Beach Party celebrates Auckland's Anniversary weekend. "Come along in your Speedos, tog or boardies and get a free cocktail on arrival between 10 and 10:30pm," invites Family's events queen Miss Ribena. A 'Beach Babe' competition is set for 11pm, and special guests Mimi and the Nancy Boys will perform at Midnight. And as usual on public holiday weekends, Urge bar on K' Road hosts an Underware Night on Sunday evening, which has already sold out. "DJ Donald Bennett and Raj will get you hot -n- sweaty for this summer party," says the Urge crew. DJ James Leuii will be spinning discs at the bar on the previous evening for what's also set to be a busy night at the all-male venue.
