US President Barack Obama will call for the repeal of the long-standing "don't ask, don't tell" policy towards gays serving in the military, says a White House official. Military door needs to open: US President Obama Today's State of the Union address is expected to address the issue, which has been a key LGBT equality issue which the Democrats campaigned on in Obama's gay-friendly pre-election promises. The 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy dates back to 1993, when then-President Bill Clinton signed it into law as a compromise after the military objected to his calls to recruit gay people.
