Weather forces Out in the Square postponement

Fri 22 Jan 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

4.45PM: An unpleasant weather forecast predicting rain, strong wind and cool temperatures has forced the postponement of Wellington's Out In The Square day. Although scheduled to start at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning the fair and entertainment day has been put back 24 hours to take advantage of a hugely better forecast, says co-organiser Andy Boreham. "The forecast for tomorrow, Saturday, is for increasing rain and cold, strong southerlies," says Boreham,"whereas Sunday is forecast to be sunny with no wind and temperatures reaching 20 degrees." Boreham says Out In The Square will kick off at 11am Sunday with its attractions and entertainment largely unaffected by the 24 hour postponement. He says the vagaries of Wellington weather had already been factored into planning. Out In The Square is the kick-off event for Proud, Wellington's two week long pride festival. Other festival events have not been affected. The Saturday night Devious party and the Pool Party on Sunday night will both go ahead as advertised with no change to date, time or venue. Earlier today the weather office issued a severe weather warning for the lower North Island and some airline flights into and out of the capital have already been affected.
