Gay and lesbian people from around the globe are invited to grab their loved one's hand and take a picture for a new campaign. Londoner David Watkins, founder of A Day in Hand, is hosting hand-holding photos from dozens of countries of the world on his website. "I know that homophobia exists because of ignorance," he says. "And I know that every time I hold hands with a man publicly, I am striking a blow for ignorance. "Same-sex hand holders, inject a dose of 21st century reality into the minds of people who still believe that to exist you have to hate. And as for me, well the sight of same-sex hand holding stirs the lover and the hero in my heart." The first message from New Zealand appeared on the website last month: "In my city it's a definite 'no go' as it is for most of the south island of NZ," wrote Francis Deane. "It's more accepted in the north island but still an area that couples need to exercise caution over doing even in Auckland our most liberal city." Watkins has nominated the last Saturday of each month as 'Same Sex Hand-Holding Saturday', when he encourages same-sex couples around the world to "go outside, hold hands in public, and send their stories and pictures to our website." David Watkins explains his project on the video below.
