The NZ AIDS Foundation has at last counted all the money raised by collectors and events for World AIDS Day 2009, revealing an impressive total: "slightly more than $38,000." Volunteer power: K' Road drag divas rattled buckets on World AIDS Day All the Foundation's staff and many volunteers rattled buckets on the streets and at events around New Zealand on 27 November 2009. "The NZAF is deeply appreciative of every generous donation that was made on and around World AIDS Day," NZAF Executive Director Rachael Le Mesurier tells GayNZ.com. "World AIDS Day is the only public appeal that the NZAF holds annually and it is both inspiring and humbling to witness the generosity of New Zealanders." More than $30,000 will directly benefit the Wellness Fund which provides grants for unsubsidised health-related expenses to people living with HIV in New Zealand, says Le Mesurier. Approximately $2,800 of donations from collections other than the buckets and 'I SEE RED' parties will benefit NZAF HIV prevention initiatives, and $5,000 covers the costs of producing posters, collector's identification, volunteer transport, buckets and stickers, advertising and other costs associated with World AIDS Day, a statement from the NZAF explains. The figure raised nationwide on World AIDS Day 2009 is similar to 2008's total of just over $38.5K.
