Weather worries for Saturday's Out in the Square

Wed 20 Jan 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

The MetService predicts showers across this weekend, raising the possibility of the Out in the Square LGBT family fun day in Wellington's Civic Square being rained out for the third year running. Out through Saturday and more showers on Sunday becoming widespread in the evening. The annual event, formerly called Wellington's Gay and Lesbian Fair, was rebranded three years ago and moved from Newtown to the city's Civic Square, explains Out Wellington co-chair Andy Boreham. "Ever since the move, Out in the Square has been hampered with rain, with the first two events being rained-out," he says. "This year's fair, the third, was moved from March to January to take advantage of summer and to avoid being rained-off again. It doesn't look to have worked!" If bad weather means Out in the Square is affected, GayNZ.com will report the announcement as early as possible on Saturday morning.
