The capital's two-week Proud 2010 Festival starts this weekend with the city's most popular annual LGBT event and the biggest gay party it's seen in years. The traditionally popular festival is bigger and features more events than ever before, including film screenings, a pool party, drag aerobics and much more. Here's the full schedule, proving that there's something during Proud 2010 for everyone... Out in the Square 11am - 5pm, Saturday 23 January Out in the Square is Wellington's annual gay and lesbian fair, this year celebrating its 25th anniversary. The day will be officially opened by the Mayor at 11am and features a fantastic line up of performers and games to keep you entertained. We have loads of food stalls booked - everything from gelato to whitebait patties to Thai noodles to hotdogs - and coffee. You'll also find jewelry, art, crafts, books, and myriad other items. Join the fun at Civic Square in the heart of Wellington from 11am. The rain date is Sunday 24 January - GayNZ.com will let you know early in the morning if the event will be postponed due to weather. LAGANZ History Walk 3pm - 5:30pm, Saturday 23 January Almost every block of inner-Wellington has a site where lesbians formed relationships and founded women's organisations, gay men met for clandestine sex - or one was murdered - and both gathered to change laws. The walk takes around 90 minutes and is led by Lesbian new perfume. Get It On's Test the Queer Nation at Club Ivy will feature special safe sex and 'Fag Hag' fragrance rounds. Codeine Like Candy single release party 9pm - 1am, Wednesday 27 January Codeine Like Candy A special night to launch Codeine like Candy's new single 'Chainsaw' will include a burlesque dancing performance! The band have recently moved to Wellington from Auckland, where they opened for the Headless Chickens, played the Big Gay Out, and the Transmission Room among other top gigs. Safe But Weird Sex Workshop 6pm - 7:30pm, Thursday 28 January This free workshop explores some of the less-talked-about sex play that same sex couples sometimes indulge in. Queer Idol 9pm onwards, Thursday 28 January Join hosts Aaron and Andy at Club K on Dixon Street as they search for Wellington's next Queer Idol! Get on stage and belt out your favourite tune in an attempt to win the title and the prizes. The winner will get to take away their live performance on CD, and appear as a special guest on Camp FM to introduce their track to the world! Guava Gay Out From 5pm, Friday 29 January The Guava Tree on Ghuznee Street is Wellington's one-stop shop for Indian home accessories and gifts. The team is hosting a colourful and delicious in-store event with free drinks and light nibbles, a shopping spree with exclusive discounts, and an outrageous Bollywood fashion show. Butler's Pleasure Palate From 7pm, Friday 29 January Succumb to host Peter Kelly's charms, and be taken on a sumptuous journey of point and counterpoint, matching delicious chocolates from the Butler's Chocolate Cafe range with gorgeous wine from Kim Crawford. Tickets are $30 and are strictly limited, so get yours quick to avoid disappointment. $18 from each ticket going back to Out Wellington for next year's Proud festival. LOL Stand-up Comedy 8pm onwards, Friday 29 January Laugh with the lezzers and snigger with the straights at this hi-larious evening of stand-up comedy at The Fringe Bar (cnr Vivian and Cuba Streets). Featuring the comic stylings of Wellington's wittiest women: Cathie Sheat, Jac Lynch, Sarah Harpur, Val Little, and special guests. Tickets are $15/$10 from the bar. Gardening Hoe-down From Midday, Saturday 30 January Enjoy a garden tour, swim, a BBQ, and some drinks in David's bush-surrounded garden set against the beautiful Rimutaka Forest Park. The Wellington Rainbow Gardening Group Hoedown is a chance to bring people together who have an interest in gardening. Everyone welcome - bring your own food and drink.
