Sun 17 Jan 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A 20-year-old Auckland student has told the Sunday Star-Times of his first gay kiss with a guy he met at a GayNZ.com Meet-Up event. Fun with masks at GayNZ.com's meet-up at Kamo yesterday "The first time we just sat opposite each other and glanced, but the next time I sat down next to him and started talking," says Rupert, who shared his story in a feature on people's first time experiences for the newspaper's glossy Sunday insert. "We basically couldn't stop looking at each other the whole night," he recalls. The two guys swiftly made a date to meet again, and within the week they shared an intimate moment: "I initiated the kiss, because I think he was trying to be a gentleman but I really wanted to kiss him... it felt right and good, and I felt happy. I think it was my first real romantic experience." OUT AND ABOUT Two dozen GayNZ.com Forum members met for drinks, nibbles and gossip at yesterday's Meet-Up at Kamo bar on K' Road. "This weekend's Meet-Up marked a busy year since our first one and we're very pleased they keep getting better and better," says organiser Matt Akersten. "People often ask me 'what happens at these Meet-Ups?' but it's simple really, it's just a chance for our online members to chat in the amazing 3-D world of real life." GayNZ.com Meet-Ups happen in Auckland each month, and quarterly in Wellington. The next one in scheduled for 6pm on Friday 5 February at Blondini's Cafe in central Wellington as part of the capital's two-week Proud Festival.
