UK gay 'slug pellet poisoner' walks free

Thu 14 Jan 2010 In: International News View at Wayback

A 37-year-old gay Manchester man who tried to poison his lesbian neighbours by putting slug pellets in a curry has avoided jail. In a story the UK's Daily Mail newspaper called "One gay man, two lesbians, a three-legged cat and a poisoned curry" last October, Gary Stewart's neighbours accused him of stealing their cat, then finding that the tyres to his car had been slashed, Stewart blamed the pair, retaliating by studding his leftover curry with slug pellets and gifting it to them. His neighbours told the court they were victims of a "hate campaign", alleging that Stewart had driven off with their three-legged cat and dumped it in a village several miles away, reports the Daily Mail. Stewart spoke of his grief after his partner Paul died of an AIDS-related illness last summer. He pleaded guilty to the attempted posioning. The court has now barred him from coming within 400 metres of his neighbours, so he must now move house.
