An estimated over 10,000 people will pass through Wellington's Civic Square during Out in the Square day on Saturday 23 January, and its organisers are seeking volunteers to make it the best day it can be. Fair day: Stallholders set for Out in the Square "We like to call our volunteers 'Fair Fairies', and to generate a carnival atmosphere we provide them with wings to wear," Out Wellington's Secretary Russell Clark tells GayNZ.com. The volunteers will help with setting up stalls, perform small but essential tasks during the day, and help take down the stalls. "Early-rising helpers will receive a breakfast of bagels and cream cheese," promises Clark. "You aren't required to be there all day, and certainly not working all that time. Throughout the day, there will be small tasks to keep the fair fairies busy, but they can still pursue the stalls, chat to their friends, and watch the entertainment on stage," he explains. Interested people can email russellclark83@gmail.com. A small number of Fairies are also needed to help with setting up the Devious party happening over at Shed 6 later that evening. Wellington's Proud 2010 festival is happening from 23 January to 6 February. A fit-in-your-pocket guide to the complete festival is now available around local cafés.
