New South Wales won't lift gay adoption ban

Mon 11 Jan 2010 In: International News

The government of New South Wales - the Aussie state which is home to Sydney - has decided not to allow same-sex couples to adopt. The decision comes despite a parliamentary enquiry which recommended that changing the law would "ensure the best interests of children," reports the Sydney Morning Herald. The government cited 'insufficient community support' as a reason to dismiss a change to adoption rules. Gay equality groups slammed the decision as 'ignorant and bigoted'.
