Queenstown's first gay bar closes

Sun 22 Nov 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Queenstown's first-ever gay bar lasted only eight months – it's now closed and new owners plan to rebrand and reopen it soon as a mainstream venue. 12Bar on Church Lane in central Queenstown had its official relaunch opening back in March, with Auckland drag divas Tess Tickle, Mimi Boyz and Dallas Dixon visiting to entertain the crowd. The venue's new owners will re-name it 'Rolla bar'. Queenstown now has no specifically LGBT venues, but the town shows its rainbow colours when it hosts a popular Gay Ski Week each September, drawing in visitors from around New Zealand, Australia and beyond.
