The Nancy Boys - K' Road's new dancing queen crew

Fri 20 Nov 2009 In: Events View at NDHA

K' Road's drag divas are going to 'wig out' when they hear about Auckland's newest gay club crew set to storm the stage and steal their spotlight - girlfriends, meet The Nancy Boys! Pictured above from left to right is Jesse Wikiriwhi, Duncan Sheffield, Adam Leys and Brendan Kydd. Our photo shows them posing as butch as they can be, backstage at Family bar where they premiered their dance moves to a packed crowd last weekend. It's the first time they've performed altogether on stage as the Nancy Boys, and they're hoping to be seen at many more gigs to come. "Brendan and myself got together for a meeting a few weeks ago when I was visiting Auckland and just decided that it was time that there was an all-male dance show performing at our favourite hot spots," Jesse tells GayNZ.com. "I also discussed the idea with [drag diva] Tess Tickle and she thought it would be a fantastic. I mean I love to watch a good drag show on the weekend but I also love to watch some male dance action, so I thought... well let's start our own company! The duo decided to call themselves 'The Nancy Boys'. "We thought it wasn't too feminine, but that it stated that we were gay without being too obvious or over the top!" They found two more guys to join them, both also gay and with different backgrounds in dance. "We want to perform on a very regular basis doing all-male shows as well as backing up many of our favourite drag artists," says Jesse. "We're also thinking of supporting gay related events, including fundraisers." Wearing colourfully camp DJ Station tops and shorts, the awesome foursome took to the stage at Family bar last Saturday night, busting their choreographed moves to a Michael Jackson medley and stripping to their sexy black singlets. "Our debut show went amazingly and we're already booked in for our next couple of gigs which is fantastic," reveals Jesse. "You'll be able to see us at The AIDS Foundation Fundraiser on Sunday 29 November at Family modelling some amazing fashions. Also we've pencilled in our next performance date on Saturday 12 December at Family - it's going to be a Christmas special so don't miss it!" Matt Akersten - 20th November 2009
