America's biggest gay media company closes

Tue 17 Nov 2009 In: International News View at NDHA

America's largest publisher of LGBT newspapers and websites has suddenly closed. Window Media LCC owns the Washington Blade, Southern Voice, David magazine and the South Florida Blade. Laura Douglas-Brown, editor of Southern Voice newspaper in Atlanta, said she arrived at work today to find the locks changed and a note saying the company had closed down, reports the Guardian. "From my understanding, there was just no more money to keep these companies running," she said. "We had all been told that the companies would be sold. The fact that we were shut down was a complete shock." The Washington Blade celebrated its 40th anniversary last month.
