The special screening of new Kiwi film The Vintner's Luck in Wellington next week will raise money for 2011's Outgames. Gaspard Ulliel as Xas the Angel in The Vintner's Luck The Vintner's Luck is the latest feature from acclaimed New Zealand-based filmmaker Niki Caro, director of the Academy Award nominated films Whale Rider and North Country. Adapted from New Zealand author Elizabeth Knox's award winning novel, this unconventional love story is set in 19th century France. The film tells the tale of Sobran Jodeau, an ambitious young peasant winemaker and the three loves of his life – his beautiful and passionate wife Celeste, the proudly intellectual baroness Aurora de Valday, and Xas, a fallen angel with whom he who strikes up an unlikely but enduring relationship. Under his guidance Sobran is forced to fathom the nature of love and belief and in the process grapples with the sensual, the sacred and the profane – in pursuit of the perfect vintage. The special Outgames fundraising screening of The Vintner's Luck is scheduled for 8pm on Thursday 19 November at The Penthouse Cinema, Brooklyn.
