The New Zealand promoter of the Big Day Out claims he was not aware of Beenie Man's homophobia controversy and will soon discuss the matter with the event's Aussie managers. Beenie Man In a message sent to GayNZ.com and many alarmed music fans who contacted him to question why the anti-gay hate-mongering Jamaican reggae star was added to January's Gay Day Out line-up, Big Day Out's Kiwi promoter Campbell Smith promised to respond "substantively" to their concerns. "We were not aware of this history regarding Beenie Man," read an emailed statement from a Big Day Out. Campbell Smith will be discussing this matter with the Big Day Out producers, and he will respond substantively as soon as he can."
