Ruby ring on TradeMe 'will turn your fiancée gay'

Wed 4 Nov 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A 'cursed ruby ring' which 'will turn your fiancée gay' has been listed on TradeMe, with the warning: 'beware its magical powers'. Beware - this ring has magical powers. The traditional-looking ruby and diamond yellow gold cluster ring, which also featured as the 'TradeMe Auction of the Day' on TV3's Sunrise show this morning, was later taken off the website after the seller's ex-fiancée objected to the listing. The item was originally purchased as "an engagement ring for my long time partner of six happy years, and then after a whirlwind two month engagement she turned gay," the TradeMe ad explains. "Only buy this beautiful new condition estate piece if you wish to NOT get married in the most extreme of circumstances," continued the listing. "Beware its magical powers. Beware." A close friend of the formally engaged 'turned gay' women contacted GayNZ.com to say her pal, who does not want to be named in this story, was "positively spewing" about the TradeMe page. "Right now she's worried that all this will do is draw attention to him and make him able to sell it for heaps, but she's got family calling lawyers," she added.
