Rainbow Youth benefits as BNZ 'Closed for Good'

Tue 3 Nov 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

All 177 branches of BNZ bank across New Zealand will be closed tomorrow as staff support a variety of local projects, with one gay staff member and his team taking the opportunity to spend the day giving K' Road's Rainbow Youth Centre a makeover. A day off to help Rainbow Youth: Clint Woolly Every BNZ staff member - there are 3,500 around New Zealand - has nominated a community project to spend their time with tomorrow. "As far as I know this is a New Zealand first for a company as big as BNZ," Clint Woolly from the bank's website team tells GayNZ.com. "I'll be spending the day at my main charity, Rainbow Youth. The centre has been undergoing a much needed freshen up. So we'll be giving it a coat of paint as well as tidying up inside and the open space out back, giving our members a fresh, safe space ready for summer. "There's lots to be done so I'm doubly excited, being from BNZ and Rainbow Youth. At work, our team met and discussed with Rainbow Youth's Executive Director all that needed to be achieved and I think everyone was eager to get their hands dirty. I just hope the weather comes through!" Woolly says tomorrow's Closed for Good is a great opportunity for the bank's staff to get out in the wider community and really connect with people. "I'm a strong believer in volunteer work and community building and this is an awesome effort by BNZ. It shows that we're not just a bank, we're people too!"
