Urge bar's Slave Auction makes $6K for OUTLine

Punters at K' Road's Urge bar dug deep to help OUTLine October last night, raising an impressive $6,000 to benefit the cash strapped GLBT service. Start the bidding: Urge bar's Paul Heard with eager auction-goers The money was raised in an auctioning off of donated goods, with nineteen items up for sale presented by bear and cub 'slaves'. The most popular item on the night was a collection of eleven alternative gay magazines from Michael Lett Gallery, which attracted phone bids from Chicago and Wellington, and sold for $1,000. Some of the other top lots included a voucher for Birkenhead's Eight Point Two restaurant which went for double its $130 value, two big weekends away in Rotorua, and the first drawing of the Urge logo which went for $650. "It's pretty hard to put into words what am amazing night it was at the bar," said Urge's co-owner Alan Granville. "We were packed full with some of the most generous people in town. Thanks so much to all the prize sponsors, staff and customers who helped show that the gay community is still intact and ready to help worthy causes." The $6,000 will be handed to the embattled LGBT phone support service OUTLine NZ. Urge bar has also pledged that half the door charge to Labour Weekend Sunday 25 October's Underwear Party will also go to OUTLine October, with tickets already almost sold out.
