After a successful Out Takes Film Festival this year, its organisers say they're set for their Film Festivals again next year in Auckland and Wellington, but not in Christchurch. Speaking at last evening's Gay Auckland Business Association meeting, Reel Queer's volunteers said the next festival would begin in Auckland on 27 May 2010, with the venue yet to be finalised. The dates and venue for Wellington will be confirmed soon, but due to an unsuccessful funding application to Christchurch City Council, the Garden City will miss out on the festival next year. "This year was a great rebuilding year for us, after a break in 2008," said Reel Queer's Daniel Spragg. "Our Opening and Closing night films were sold out, and several films were very successful with packed cinemas." "The feedback we got from cinema goers was lovely - some said the Film Festival was one of the nicest gay/lesbian events of the year," added fellow volunteer Bain Divine. Reel Queer will work harder on attracting female viewers to films on offer to women next year, as 2009's Out Takes attracted a lot more males than females to its screenings, the crew said. The Real Queer team are currently seeking sponsorship from businesses who would like to appear in 2010's Out Takes Film Festival programme, which will be printed towards the end of April. Contact details are on the festival's official website.
