Wed 30 Sep 2009 In: International News View at NDHA

The city of Cleveland, Ohio has been chosen to host 2014's Gay Games, with 15,000 athletes and 28 events expected. US cities Boston and Washington were also in the race to be picked, but Cleveland's LGBT community has been very active in rallying support for the Games. The City Council even approved a $700,000 grant to help host the event. "Cleveland demonstrated to the Federation of Gay Games that they understood the mission of the Gay Games and our principles of 'Participation, Inclusion, and Personal Best'," Gay Games officials announced this morning. "We were highly impressed by the facilities and infrastructure, the widespread community sport, their financial plan and the city's experience in hosting large scale sports and cultural events." The Gay Games take place every four years. 2010's Games will happen in Cologue, Germany, from 31 July to 7 August. Cleveland's Gay Games campaign video is shown below.
