Who will be Welly's new best Fag Hag?

Sun 13 Sep 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Wellington will again crown its best girl-who-hangs-around-gays-too-much in its 2nd annual Miss Fag Hag competition hosted by Club Ivy soon. Organiser Andy Boreham explains, "Miss Fag Hag is just about having a bit of fun. It's also a way to reclaim an often negative stereotype and celebrate one of the most important relationships that a gay man will ever have. "It's not all about shopping, brunches, and making sure each other's hair is done properly! It's about winning lots of great prizes including a huge bar tab, a gift basket from The Guava Tree, make-up, and new-release CDs from Warner Music." The first Miss Fag Hag pageant - won by Veronica Mills - was held in early 2008 at Sub Nine nightclub, and spawned several copy shows at gay nightclubs throughout the country. "If you think your fag hag should be crowned number one, then get her to come with you to Miss Fag Hag Wellington, on Saturday 26 September." Registration begins on the night at 11pm, and the show starts at 1am. Camp FM's Aaron and Andy will be hosting the event, so either register with them or up at the bar. All fag hags must be presented by their gay male friends to be eligible to win. Previous winner, Veronica Mills, will be there to help with judging, and to hand over the crown. Club Ivy is also offering free bubbles on arrival to its VIP Club cardholders.
