10.30PM: A documentary film tracing the emergence of lesbian sisters The Topp Twins' rise from youngsters on the farm to iconic Kiwi entertainers has tonight won its category in the Qantas Film and Television Awards. At a celebrity-studded ceremony in Auckland's Civic Theatre Wintergarden Untouchable Girls, produced by the Twins' long-time manager Arani Cuthbert, took out the 'Best Feature Film - Budget under $1million' award. The announcement was well-received by the audience of film and TV professionals who responded with loud and prolonged applause. In her acceptance speech Cuthbert thanked her and the Topps' respective partners for "three years of torture" during the making of the film. Untouchable Girls is a nothing-spared look at the Twins' rise to fame set against fifty years of social change in New Zealand. Part comedy, part biography and part historical record, it includes the Twins' recounting their experiences of coming out and Jools' recent brush with breast cancer. It has been the highest-grossing NZ film released this year.
