The crew who organised the last-ever Hero Party back in February say they'll be back next year with a special 'Carnivale' party they're calling "a creative entertainment extravaganza of ridiculously awesome proportions." The party planners say they are finalising negotiations for the event, scheduled for Saturday 20 February 2010. "The event will be focused on inclusiveness of the entire GLBTI community and its supporters, promoting being out and proud and celebrating our creativity in the mainstream environment, similar to the approach of Sydney Mardi Gras," organiser Richy James tells GayNZ.com, adding that tickets will be priced at under $50. The party will also be a direct fundraiser for LGBT phone support service OutlineNZ with a generous portion of each ticket going directly to the organisation. Further details about the 'Carnivale' will be announced on 1 October, say the party's planners. February looks set to be a busy month of events targeting Auckland's gay citizens, with a new LGBT festival in the planning stages, following the decision to discontinue the traditional 'Hero' brand of festival events.
