Allegation of sexual assault at Family

Tue 25 Aug 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

5.00PM: Auckland police have just confirmed that they are investigating an allegation of sexual assault stemming from an incident reported during Family Bar's Sunday night Birthday party. A woman in her twenties is understood to have made the allegation, though details are not available. Originally described by a senior Family staffer as "a hoax by an ex-staff member", the incident led to police being called and the party was shut down while several patrons were interviewed. A short while ago a woman claiming to be the mother of the complainant posted briefly in GayNZ.com's Forum, saying the alleged offender had not been found on the premises, leading to the police being summoned. "Thank you all for your co-operation with the police during their investigation," she wrote, and went on to apologise for the inconvenience to patrons. Family owner Wayne Clark says the details of the allegation are unclear and he is happy to let the police pursue their inquiries which he hopes will clear up the matter quickly.
