NZ troops' reminder of sadistic gay deaths

Wed 29 Jul 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

New Zealand troops currently patrolling Kabul in Afghanistan face a regular reminder of the sadistic deaths meted out to homosexuals by the extremist Muslim Taleban regime which they are helping to push back. Swimming Pool Hill, Kabul Swimming Pool Hill, a vantage point overlooking Kabul and near the Kiwi's operational base, is named for the huge Olympic-sized swimming pool built by the Russians in their ill-fated 1980s invasion of Afghanistan. When the Taleban over-rode the area they used the never-filled swimming pool to torture and kill suspected homosexuals by throwing them off the highest diving board to crash onto the concrete floor far below. Anyone who survived the plumet onto the raw concrete was deemed to have been innocent of homosexuality afterall, but few are believed by local residents to have ever survived.
