Hamilton set for Pride Week this September

Tue 21 Jul 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Hamilton's third annual Pride Week has now been confirmed for 12-20 September, with its organisers saying their mission is to "together celebrate and support the diversity of Hamilton's Rainbow community." The Pride committee and volunteers are working hard behind the scenes on a diverse programme, says Lynda Johnston, co-chair of Hamilton Pride Inc. "In early spring there will be a colourful and fabulous week long Pride festival in the Waikato," she confirms, " including a tramp on Saturday 12 September, launch party, Lesbian Quiz night, day of workshops, annual screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, picnic, craft evening, casino night and several other events throughout the week." The week will conclude with a dance party at Shine nightclub on Saturday 20th and a café brunch on Sunday. Asked what she liked most about last year's Hamilton Pride Festival, Johnston says "I loved the way our diverse communities came together to celebrate and support each other for the week." In the spirit of celebrating diversity together, the Hamilton Pride Inc Committee would like to invite everyone interested to celebrate and gain a deeper sense of community by attending, says Hamilton pride Inc.'s Stefan Mutter. "We also would like to invite other community groups and organisations to host events during the festival week," adds Mutter. "If you or your organisation is interested, contact us at info@hamiltonpride.co.nz." GayNZ.com is proud to support Hamilton Pride Week. More details about all the week's events are available on its official website.
