Her songs are already a hit on YouTube, but now 16-year-old singer Kim Petras has arrived in the UK to launch her pop career - and has revealed she was born a male. Pop princess: Kim Petras Kim, who was named 'Tim' at birth, is thought to be the youngest person in the world to have had gender reassignment surgery. Petras told The Sun newspaper that she insisted on being called a girl, even at the age of two: "There wasn't ever a moment when I decided not to be a boy any more. I was just always a girl." Her family supported her during her challenging transition surgeries, she adds. Starting hormone therapy at the age of 13 in Hamburg, Petras made headlines after appearing on a German TV documentary about transgender people. German hormone specialist Dr. Achim Wuesthof defended the decision to start Petras' transition early. "According to German law, two independent psychiatrists must confirm that the child is indeed transsexual and approve the sex change. Once that has been done, it is best to start as early as possible." Kim Petras' song Last Forever, with a gallery of her pictures, is below.
