Ambach trial jury now into overtime

Thu 9 Jul 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Ambach trial Day 12: 5.30PM: The jury deciding the fate of Ferdinand Ambach, the Hungarian tourist charged with murdering an elderly gay Onehunga man has gone into overtime, electing to sit past its usual 5pm break for the day in hope of reaching a verdict. The jury began its deliberations at midday on Tuesday and late this afternoon reassured Justice Helen Winkelmann that it is moving towards a verdict. Jury members agreed to sit into this evening in the hope of giving a unanimous decision on whether Ambach is guilty of murder or the lesser charge of manslaughter. Court staff are staying on until at least 8pm, and GayNZ.com will remain at the Auckland High Court until a verdict is given.
