LGBT groups plan Annual General Meetings

Tue 16 Jun 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

It's the time of year when several LGBT societies around New Zealand are having their Annual General Meetings. Telephone support network OUTLine NZ's AGM was last Monday, Rainbow Youth's AGM is this Saturday, while the Gay Auckland Business Association, and Out Wellington Incorporated - the group behind Wellington's annual Out in the Square - will hold theirs in July. OUTLine NZ's AGM, at their office in downtown Auckland, featured guest speakers Jack Byrne and local transgender people. Business included changing the organisation's Mission Statement to include all 'Rainbow Communities' - a broad term which includes gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, takataapui, intersex, fa'afafine, queer and questioning people. Rainbow Youth's Annual General Meeting is planned for 1:30pm this Saturday 20 June, at their HQ on K' Road. New board members will be elected and constitutional changes will be voted on. Rainbow Youth is run by youth, for youth - if you are under 28 years old and interested in becoming a board member, please contact Tommy for more details via email at: info@rainbowyouth.org.nz. The Gay Auckland Business Association's President Gavin Hyde says nominations for executive officers on the GABA Board are still required, in time for its AGM, planned for 6:30pm on Wednesday 1 July at the Urban Cafe in Newmarket. "The Executive is integral to the running of GABA and as the saying goes 'many hand make light work'," says Hyde. "It is also an excellent way to build your own network and busness results." Out Wellington Inc. is extending an invitation to the wider LGBT community to come along and get involved in its AGM, planned for 6pm on Thursday 9 July at the NZAF's Awhina Centre, Level 1, 187 Willis Street, Wellington. Out Wellington's AGM will include a briefing on Out in the Square and the Proud 2009 Festival, a chance for feedback from the community on the society's activities, and elections for executive positions including chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer. Contact details and further information about Out in the Square and Proud 2009 are provided on the websites linked below.
