The president of Auckland's long-running Long Yang Club social group is keen to attract more members and "provide a safe place where gay man from different cultures can socialize and learn from each other." Social picnic: Auckland's Long Yang Club Val Incapas, who took over running the group in January, says he wants to lift the profile of the group and break the perception that it is only for young Asian and old European men seeking men - an 'East meets West'. "The group is open for everybody no matter what your ethnicity, age or background. We want to make sure that we are inclusive of everybody who wants to join the group," he tells GayNZ.com. The group holds monthly events including pot luck dinners at members' houses, DVD nights, BBQ's, mystery trips and Tenpin bowling. Normally around 15-20 members attend each event. Auckland's Long Yang Club is one branch of Long Yang Club International. Founded in London in 1983, it has branches in at least eleven countries over five continents.
