Gay 'Flightless Bird' starts radio show

Wed 3 Jun 2009 In: New Zealand Daily News

Gay Aucklander Jonathan Milne - also known as the Kiwi 'Flightless Bird' on YouTube - has started hosting his own show on North Shore Community Radio. On the airwaves: Jonathan Milne "I try make the show kinda fun," he tells GayNZ.com. "I talk about up and coming events in Auckland - like the Auckland Photography Festival, or Out Takes, as well as talking about news and experiences. "I try search out a few new international hits each week, or something a little different. But I also keep some favorites in there too, like a little Beyonce and Shakira," he explains. The radio station is called The Flea, on 88.2FM and 107FM on Auckland's North Shore from Devonport/Takapuna, up to Albany, but it also has an online following via live streaming on the station's website. Milne broadcasts on Saturday evenings from 8pm until 10pm, and Sundays from Midday until 2pm. "The great thing about it is that because it's a small station we have a lot of freedom to do what we want. I have plans to do some talkback-style segments, and take a few calls on air, but still just building the format at the moment." Milne says his radio broadcasts are mostly to try and gain him media presenting experience. "On New Year's Eve I decided I wanted a career as a presenter, to eventually work on a mainstream TV show," he tells us. "So this opportunity to gain experience by working at a local community radio station is great!"
