LA school elects Sergio prom queen

Sat 30 May 2009 In: International News

A gay teenager has been crowned Prom Queen at his Los Angeles high school after telling classmates "I'm not your typical prom queen candidate, there's more to me than meets the eye." Sergio Garcia acknowledges that his campaign began as a stunt after he noticed that fliers advertising the election didn't specify that the queen must be female. However, he says he is pleased the stunt turned into a serious discussion on the Fairfax High School campus about gender roles and popularity. Garcia attended the Prom dance wearing a conservative gray tuxedo topped off by the Queen's tiara.
