Auckland police are still hoping to hear from more men who can shed light on the sexual habits of the alleged 'HIV predator' who is feared to have infected seven or more young men with HIV. Detective Sergeant Andy King says his team's investigation is still progressing but he is unable for now to give any details. However, he says he is hoping more men who have had sex with the as yet unnamed HIV positive man, or who can offer some insight into his allegedly unsafe sexual behaviour. The man is a personable and well-presented pakeha in his forties, although he looks considerably younger. He has a fair complexion and dark hair. He is an inner-city resident who shifted to Auckland from Wellington approximately two years ago and is alleged to have regularly sought unprotected sex with younger men in both cities. King is aware that his current inability to name the man publicly may be impeding people coming forward, but suggests that any memory of an attempt to have sex without a condom by a man fitting the description circulating may trigger more men to come forward. King says the Adult Sexual Assault Team's formal investigation, launched after a complaint was lodged with police two weeks ago, is progressing with care. "We are determined that this investigation should be done thoroughly," he says. King asks anyone who may have in formation to contact him on (09) 302 6611.
