The winners of the prestigious Christchurch Teen Queen, Outstanding Gayness, Hottest on the Dancefloor and other awards will take away hand-made trophies – unveiled today – plus a dinner for two at a top local restaurant. Works of art: Cruz Awards 2009 trophies For the second year running, Christchurch's Cruz nightclub's owner Bruce Williamson has commissioned five unique trophies to be given out in the 2009 Cruz Awards event happening this Saturday night. The club's punters have left their nominations at the bar over the last two weeks to ensure the awards go to the right people. Among the trophies are a toy toilet to represent Mr. or Ms. Permanently in Cubicle #1, toy sneakers for the one voted Gym-Bunniest, and a very dolled-up pig statuette for the Outstanding Gayness winner. Each winner also receives a dinner for two to the value of $170 at Christchurch's gay-friendly SEZN Restaurant - which won the Entertainment Book Fine Dine Award for 2008. The awards will be compered from 11pm this Saturday night by the Divine Miss Joanne Clarke, author of Never Trust a Skinny Cook, with show numbers by Joanne herself plus the city's local drag divas Stella and Kitana.
