Auckland police are hoping one or more of the youths pictured in a candid photo may be able to assist them in their inquiry into the alleged HIV predator. The youths in this photo may be able to help police The police Adult Sexual Assault Team is now investigating a formal complaint that a 40-year old man has knowingly infected a younger man with HIV. It is understood at least half a dozen other youthful alleged victims of the 'HIV predator' have not felt able to lay formal complaints yet. Some are believed to still be defending the man. In the photo the young men's relationship with the alleged predator is uncertain, but Police Diversity Liaison Officer Brent Clark says there is concern that if any have been in a sexual relationship with the man they may have been lulled or coerced into unsafe sex with the real risk of HIV infection. Although the faces in the photo have been masked, Clark hopes the youths will recognise themselves and each other and and offer to assist the investigation, which is understood to be picking up speed. He also believes that if they have had unsafe sex they should seriously consider being tested for HIV or other STDs. Anyone who thinks they can assist the Police investigation should contact Detective Sergeant Andy King on (09) 302 6611. The NZ AIDS Foundation, Body Positive Auckland and other HIV-related organisations are reiterating their availability to provide support and conduct confidential HIV and STD tests for anyone worried they may be a victim of the predator. Anyone considering being tested for HIV should contact any of the following: Body Positive: 0800 HIV LINE or (09) 309 3989; NZ AIDS Foundation's Auckland Burnett Centre: (09) 309 5560; NZ AIDS Foundation's Wellington Awhina Centre: (04) 381 6640; other NZAF support and testing centres or their GP or local Sexual Health Clinic.
